After conceiving Cassius, Johanna knew his father was going to be the man she wanted to be with forever, or at least until they got tired of each other. The form he took was truly breathtaking, a living firework, all golden and bright. His hair was a gleaming gold that shone like a newly forged Celestial Bronze sword, his eyes were scintillating emeralds, as incandescent as a supernova. Parting from him was like tearing a limb off, but it didn't really bother Johanna when he left, after Cassius was born. He left her with the most beautiful thing she could have, other than him: a child.
With each coming day, she couldn't help, but to miss Hephaestus' bright face, a brilliance of luminescent colors. Her longing began to drain her capacity to keep up with Cassius. It got to the point where she no longer thought of herself as a fit mother. The pain of distance drove a knife through her ragged soul, she ended up praying, to whatever god was listening, asking, begging to see Hephaestus; and then he came.
In a whirlwind of flames and ember appeared her loves, the bright and shining, her lightning and thunder. She turns, eyes enflamed with tears. She quickly got up, and ran at him, her arms wide open for an embrace. He opened his arms as well, except when he held on to her, he grabbed her head, and erased her memory of him ever existing, another man in his stead as Cassius's father. When she opened her eyes, she was in the arms of a stranger. A beautiful stranger.
Their second “first meeting” was quite awkward; Johanna pulled from the embrace apologetically, having no recollection of why exactly she was hugging him. His appearance did take her aback, though. Looking at him was like looking at a burning torch in a dark room. Blinding. The shining turned a key in her heart, and with the pop of the lock, she was slowly able to bear looking at him, without having pangs of pain surge throughout her mind. The pain, unbeknownst to her, was her mind trying to recognize, Hephaestus.
It didn't take long for them to fall in love, yet again. Their love was no repetition of events, either. In time, yet again, Johanna was with child. This time, she named her son Patricles. Hephaestus was very disappointed in himself for burdening her with another child. As she knew she wouldn't be able to raise both children herself. He persuaded her to have her brother and his wife take care of Patricles on weekdays, and he would stay with Johanna on weekends.
The separation of the two certainly made monster attacks come much later than it would have if they were together. Patricles had his first monster attack on a typical day with Cassius and Johanna, luckily, Cassius had already been going to Camp to train, so he was able to hold his own and slay the monster.
After Cassius and Johanna were kidnapped, Patricles, now 16, was able go out looking for them. Though his aunt and uncles highly disapproved, he went out, with the tidbits of training experience his brother Cassius had gave him. He trekked through the woods, and stumbled upon a horde of feasting Hellhounds. As soon as they caught sight of him, they darted toward him, malice emanating from every growl that escaped their mouths.
Patricles continued running until his legs couldn't bear another step. He ended up tripping over his own tiredness, doubling over, hitting his side on a tree's trunk in the process. Then, just as the pack of Hellhounds was about to pounce on him, a bright ball of purple fire loomed over Patricles, it then moved to the Hellhounds, who hissed and backed away. After, they were gone, Patricles was greeted by his savior, a son of Hecate. He was sent to Camp to have his wounds tended, he would find Cassius.
When life gives you lemons, make lemonade, and then throw it in the face of the person who gave you the lemons until they give you the oranges you originally asked for
Patricles is somewhat like his brother. Growing up at a distance from his family, he didn't really acquire their shared traits. Instead, Patricles grew up much like his aunt and uncle, civil, balanced, and patient. Not shy, but as tranquil as the ocean.
